Since 2005, the Malagasy franc has been replaced with the “Ariary”. 1 Euro is equivalent to about 2. 200 Ariary (this rate is given as an indication since it is changeable).
Credit cards are not much used in Madagascar. However, they are accepted in hotels of international range and in the banks of main cities. You can take out Ariary with bank cards and also with VISA, MASTERCARD and AMERICAN EXPRESS.
It is also useful to have traveler checks or cash in Euro or in US dollars.
